Photo Friday: Doughnut Plant (NYC 2012)

As I am sure you can tell, I enjoyed the heck out of my New York City vacation.  Every day held something new and fun to do.  Each day was special in its own way, including this one.  I awoke one morning, leaving for a yarn crawl.  If you aren’t sure what that is, basically I walked the city, from one yarn store to another, seeking new fibers for my yarn stash.  I decided to start my day at Doughnut Plant, a doughnut shop I’d heard about from Feisty Foodie and other New York City food bloggers.

I found the whole inside of the place completely charming and hip. The decor reflected donuts in all their various shapes, sizes, and colors.  The whole place just invited you to come in, eat a donut, and be happy.

I ordered two yeast donuts: a Valrhona chocolate and a pistachio glazed.  Their yeast donuts are a bit different than the ones I’m used to at home.  At home, they tend to be light and airy, encouraging you to eat more than you realize in a quick 5 minutes.  These were more like a real breakfast.  Denser and chewy, they had a texture that let you knew this was a grand doughnut.  I didn’t care for the Valrhona chocolate one much.  First, I’m not much on a donut covered in chocolate as this.  I find it too messy.  And the chocolate just overwhelmed the donut itself.

But the pistachio.  Oh dear goodness.  Can they ship these to Louisiana, pretty please?  The glaze was just wonderfully sweet with this pistachio flavor and chips of pistachios all over the doughnut.  I didn’t realize how much I would like the combination of chewy, bready doughnut with nutty goodness.  But I miss these doughnuts.

Another thing to try to make myself?  I swear, NYC has left my list of “things to try to make” considerably longer.

Happy Friday everyone!

That place is amazing. I’m glad you got to enjoy it! One of my favorites is their peanut butter and jelly donut, which they somehow stuff with jelly all around the circle of the donut.

Wow! I’ve heard of the PB&J donut. One of the NYC bloggers I know I think told me about it. I can’t remember if it was Feisty Foodie, or someone else. I’m hoping to return to NYC next year for a conference (fingers crossed). If I do, I am so going to try to return for another pistachio donut!
