Last month on Twitter, I noticed where Bad Boys Bento (Have you seen their site? Go check it out.) mentioned about a program called foodie pen pals. Off I went in search of what this was all about. Imagine my delight when I discovered it was truly a pen pal style program. You submit your name. You’re paired with two people. One to send goodies to. One to receive good from. $15 is your spending limit and the fun begins. I had a load of fun shopping for my pen pal. But we’re not here today to talk about what I sent. We’re here to talk about what I received.
I was paired with Nubby of The Adventures of Nubby Tongue, a blog title which I must admit is completely fun and interesting (as is the blog). Nubby asked me my preferences as far as the pen pal program went (allergies, likes, etc.) Two significant responses I gave were that I’m a lunch packer and bento maker, and that while I’m a huge fan of chocolate, that a Louisiana summer makes that impossible to ship.
Well, I give Nubby a 10 out of 10 in the Foodie Pen Pal Olympics for creativity and thinking outside of the box. First off, everything she sent is small and compact, fitting easily into a box. How’s that for spot-on accuracy in food shopping for someone else? As well, she found two chocolate items that ship well in a Louisiana summer: Nutella and a Lady Walton’s chocolate cookie (love those things!)
Everything that was sent in the box includes California Crunchies herbed almonds, smoked sausage, Nutella package, Lady Walton’s cookie, small jar of apricot preserves, Sonoma Jack parmesan peppercorn cheese wedges, flax seed crackers, and some fishies for the bento box! They are HUGE! So instead of having to pack several fishies, one will do. Beyond awesomeness.
Thanks Nubby for a great start for me to a new program. I plan to participate again next month. I am so excited!
- You’re paired with someone that you send food items to and someone else that sends to you.
- The program is open to all people who are willing to send a package full of $15 (that’s the cap) of foodie stuffs to another foodie.
- You receive your pen pal assignment on the 5th of each month.
- You MUST mail your package by the 15th of the month.
- If you have a blog, you must post about what you receive on the date required (normally last day of the month)
That’s the main overview of the program. For detail’s visit The Lean Green Bean. If you join, have fun! I know I had a blast!
