Ahhh! I couldn’t figure out how to answer the question. Hope I don’t get disqualified! Just in case, my answer is:
Primarily to eat healthier. It’s a lot more fun to eat a healthy lunch if it’s packed up all cute, and being excited about the lunch I made for myself keeps me from going to McD’s with my coworkers (as often…)
Thanks for figuring it out Kelly! I’m new to Rafflecopter so your comment here helped me figure out what I needed to do to make it clear. Thank you.
I bento because its healthy cute and fun. plus i get to use up all the left overs in inventive ways, and it encourages my kids to eat more food in varried ways. not just junk
I’ve been on a bento hiatus since child number 2 and I’d really love to get back into it for my husband’s sake. We’ve been trying to eat healthier at home but the progress tends to be negated when his coworkers convince him to go out for lunch. Long story short, I bento for health and familial bliss
What great reasons to bento! I have no kids, but I totally understand the bento hiatus. It happens to me too often sometimes.
I bento because it makes eating my lunch so much fun!

Because my I wanted to give my son lunches to remember and that he would actually eat. Until I could fix my own lunch, I had either a PB&J or bologna/mayo sandwich with a piece of fruit. I really want Oscar to look back someday when he’s a parent and appreciate all the time and love I’m taking to make his lunches special not to mention healthy.
Oh wow! That’s so special. Thank you for entering Tina!
I’m a horrible inconsistant bento-er. I try to do it for portion control, and because it fits my lifestyle to have the differing foods in my lunch box. I’m trying to be better at bento making, but I know I won’t get as cute as a lot of the bentos I see.
Oh I’m badly inconsistent at times too. Keep with it though. You’ll find your rhythm. I lose mine sometimes, but I always find it again.
I bento because I ate at my daughters school one day. I watched kids get plates of food that I wouldn’t even eat. Everything was processed and just overall gross looking. I started my research that day and have never turned back. I love the look on my daughters face when she comes in and says lunch was cool! I like when other parents/teachers ask me why I spend the time doing it. That way I can break down that she is getting the things she needs to fuel her for the day and it makes her happy. I bento for the rest of my family too, but her needs kicked off the chain reaction!
Oh, have you read the “Fed Up with Lunch” site? I cringe when I read her blog about school lunches. I admire what you’re doing!
my son isn’t quite old enough to appreciate it, but it makes me happy to pack up pretty food when we go out for our picnics and snacks for our hikes. seeing a nice spread of lovingly presented food can be a great lift to the spirits after a long walk full of toddler exuberance.

Oh a picnic. That sounds so lovely.
I bento to keep me from the cafeteria food at my college campus- all fried, all unknown origins, and just plain gross IMHO.
Oh, I wish I would have known about bento during college!
I bento because there aren’t that many healthy options for lunch by work!

There aren’t that many options period by my work. Yet, still I go. What is wrong with me?
To save money!!
i bento for portion control and it forces me to think of new things to eat.
I bento because it helps me with portion control, with keeping a healthy variety in what I eat, and because it takes a lot of drudgery out of meal-making (aka, it can be really fun!). Happy birthday to your Mom, and thanks for the giveaway – I’ve really been enjoying your site!
Thanks for the birthday wishes for my Mom! She appreciated them all.
I bento because it allows me to control what I eat and to help save money. Eating out everyday in NYC is expensive!!
I bento because I like a variety of things in each meal, and because it’s cute
I bento because it inspires me to pack an appealing and healthy lunch!
Thanks for offering a giveaway ~ Happy Birthday to NEB and to your mom!
For my kids … hopefully it encourages them to eat more!
I bento because the creativity of it actually makes food prep fun.
I bento because it lets me have a variety of food while maintaining portion control.
I’m hoping to start with my preschooler since he’s a little picky and I think he’ll do better with lots of finger foods and a “pretty” presentation.
I bento for my kids’ lunches. It’s easy to just grab and go in the mornings. They love their LnL minis and how it keeps their foods separate. I think I should start making bentos for my lunch so I’m less likely to skip meals. Which I do a lot.

I bento because it’s fun and great for portion control. I like packing my lunches and I really enjoy making the occasional pretty lunch for my roomie or dad.
I’ve just started create Bento lunches for my husband & myself to ensure portion control, save money and provide healthier lunches for both of us at work.
I bento because eating colorful foods helps me be healthy, and making food pretty puts a smile on face.

To save money, To eat healthier, Because it makes eating more enjoyable…Uhmm. I just like it in general I suppose. ^__^
I originally started doing bentos to save money on lunch, and watch my portion control. Although now, with all the cute things coming out for bento lunches, I no longer save any money since I keep buying more!
I bento to be healthy and frugal! I didn’t know when I started my job a few years ago that it would involve eating out, sometimes the meals a day! I topped out at 190. I’m now down thirty pounds and I can afford to do things other than eat out!

What an inspiration you are Pam! Amazing!
To save money, eat healthy, and smile at lunchtime!
I bento because it really makes lunch a better part of the day. Opening up a bento packed with delicious foods makes it feel like a meal and a part of the day that I look forward to ^_^
I bento for two reasons.
Reason #1: to save money. I’m a university student and after paying for tuition, books, and other daily necessities there is not much left over. Eating out for lunch and sometimes dinner on a regular basis drains my wallet a bit too quickly for my tastes.
Reason #: portion control. What can say I like food a lot and before when trying to figure out portions was a pain. Bentos made it a lot easier to figure out how to balance what foods to pack and how much of it.
I bento to control portions, mostly!
BUT the fact that bentos are inherently ADORABLE helps, too! <3
i bento for my boys… they absolutely love all the creative and wonderfully fun ways to present their lunches ♥
I began bento a few years ago to help in weight-loss. I officially lost half of my body weight and am now at a healthy weight, which is smaller than I was when I met my husband of 22 years. I continue to bento to maintain my current healthy weight and also because I find it a great way to ensure I eat a lunch with appropriate portions and a variety of foods that work well for me. It is also great because I work and go to school full-time and sometimes make two bentos to get through the long day.
Wow! That’s wonderful Alicia! Congratulations.
I’m just starting to bento. I do it because it makes planning, packing, and eating healthy lunches fun and helps me stay motivated to do it. It’s helping my husband and I to avoid unhealthy alternatives like vending machines or fast food, and it feels great to be getting healthier without feeling like we’re missing out on something.
I bento as a creative outlet, to help control what I eat and to show my affection for myself and my bf. Sometimes I make extra for friends~
Congrats and Happy birthdays where appropriate!
I bento because I like having better control over what I eat. Most of what my college makes in the cafe is fattening.
I bento so that my kids eat balanced, healthy lunches. The time I put in to making their lunches is well worth it when they return home with an empty box (well, they do bring home thier picks and containers
).
When I plan in advance (and have a stash in my ‘frdge), I also find bento-ing (is that a word?) helps me eat healthy, and in reasonable portions.
Bento-ing is so fun! It’s a great way to save money, eat healthy, and not waste food.

I bento because… I’m like a cat I suppose. I like to play with my food and what better way than making it pretty?
I just found this blog and love it! I love the bento lunches I find at the Japanese markets in my area… but they all contain rice. Since I’m on a diet I’d like to make beautiful lunches without rice. I like the ideas and pictures I’ve seen so far. Thanks!!! Can’t wait to get packin’!!!
I bento because it makes making lunches much more fun!
I bento because it’s healthy and fun! I’ve also started along bento for my toddler – he loves it too!
I bento to provide healthy fun lunches for my daughter.
I bento because I want something to look forward to at lunch!
I bento because it is fun!
I bento because I love the Japanese culture and, since I can’t live there this is a step to get closer to it…… plus I love making cute food! So many meal ideas for such a tiny box
