This morning as I write this post, I am enjoying a sandwich that looks surprisingly similar to the one above. Today’s lunch is the same as yesterday’s: deer chili, broccoli, carrots, etc. Rather than show off a picture that looks surprisingly similar to yesterday’s lunch, I thought I’d share my thoughts on this sandwich with you.
I’ve mentioned recently that my position in my organization has moved me to a different location closer to home. In fact, I can do most of what I need to do during the week within a one mile radius of my house. I can’t tell you how nice this has been. So far, this it is just the change I’ve needed.
I’ve also mentioned that currently the new position and the new location are keeping me extremely busy. Another thing I quite like. I’m not a sit around and twiddle my thumbs sort. I might be a sit around and play on the computer all day sort: games, graphics, blogs, Facebook, etc. But, I at least like to have a plan of what I’m going to do, etc. It’s that Type A personality of mine coming through.
Busy for me often means no time to cook, or at least not the motivation to do so. Busy also means I tend to want breakfast in the mornings, a meal that normally I’m not too keen to eat. At first, I was hitting all the little joints between my house and my new workplace. Little spots that serve breakfast and plate lunches during the week. Spots that have some pretty decent biscuits, grits, and bacon.
Then this past weekend hit. And I was at the grocery store. And I thought, “What am I doing spending so much money every morning on a biscuit with bacon and eggs. I could make something just as tasty at home.” So I have.
It’s not fancy. It’s pretty simple really. Whole wheat bread toasted in a skillet with a pat of butter or margarine. A slice of cheddar cheese. A hard fried egg and a bit of pan fried ham. Wrap it up. Go to work. Ahhhh, morning breakfast at my computer before the place opens to the public, checking e-mail, making my list for the day.
The only thing that made today’s sandwich better was I am at home, typing this post for my readers, and enjoying a cup of hot chocolate as well. The dogs are snoozing nearby on this damp, chilly morning and Goran and Eames are investigating on the TV.
For me, this is what “Being the bento” is all about: an enjoyable life with enjoyable food.
Be the bento everyone! Have a great Thursday. Friday is just around the corner.
I love these kind of sandwiches.
Why thanks. I’m quite enjoying it too. I picked up some apples today to switch to apple and cheese this next week for a change.
Ha ha. I just posted a very similar breakfast sandwich, but with a bagel, cream cheese, scrambled egg and a few slices of bacon. Very satisfying and quick to come together! In fact, I had just picked up some sliced ham thinking that would be good and less work!
Yup, I bet the sliced ham would be less work, though I’m not sure if it would be quite as tasty as the bacon. But, I really like bacon, though I don’t like to cook it. I’ll have to pop over and take a look at your sandwich!
Yum yum – looks and sounds good!
It was Alexx!
Your Dad’s breakfast this morning as well – with a twist. Bologna instead of ham. I know, not my fare either but he loves it. Personally I like all of it but not all put together in one stack LOL.
