In my most recent post, I mentioned I purchased ginger root to make chicken burgers for this week’s bentos. And I did make them last night. And they appear in today’s bento. This first tier includes chicken burgers with steamed carrots and broccoli.
I used my cookie dough scoop to scoop the chicken burgers from the food processor to the frying pan. This made them really small, more like mini flattened meatballs than anything. That’s why so many of them fit into the box.
The second tier contains half of a nectarine, my one and only golden kiwi, and 2 Chips Ahoy cookies.
Now, here’s the thing about this bento. It is going to sound so weird. I think my taste buds are a bit whacked. I again glazed the chicken burgers with oyster sauce as suggested by Just Bento. For whatever reason, the oyster sauce I have smells an awful lot like maple syrup to me. I’m starting to thing it is maple syrup in a bottle marked oyster sauce. I also added the ginger root which I found had a real lemony flavor to me. The verdict: this batch of chicken burgers tastes alot like breakfast sausge to me! Weird. Just plain weird.
Be the bento everyone!
P.S. I counted votes yesterday in the bento contest. I just have to recount to be sure everything was counted correctly. I will post the results on Monday.

Take a picture of the bottle please! I can direct you to the brand I like, which is indeed a little sweet, but not maple syrup sweet.
Sometimes Giada on TV says basil tastes lemony. I read somewhere someone saying it tastes licoricey. I hate licorice but I like basil. Go figure?
I’ve made the mini-chicken burgers from Just Bento as well, and my wife likes them glazed with plain-jane teriyaki sauce from the bottle.
Hmm, Alex. That’s a great suggestion. I don’t think I have any teriyaki sauce left. I’ll have to pick some up the next time I go to the grocery. Unfortunately, I’m not enjoying these chicken burgers as much as I did the last set. They taste too much like breakfast sausage to me, and I am not a particular fan of breakfast sausage. Ah well, cook and learn.
those chicken burgers look tasty! they do make bigger cookie scoops, but they are hard to find. I’m going to have to try that next time i make meatballs, it will help me keep them the same size
i found a really yummy garlic teriyaki sauce at walmart that i use on a lot of things, i got my oyster sause there as well and it dosent seem sweet to me
I’ve not had ginger that tastes lemony so I can’t help you there. All I have had has a sharp sort of spicy sweet with a bite to it. One thing I do for the girlsa lot since the don’t love ginger and I do and don’t want to have to make seperate everything is sometimes I will use the crystallized ginger, just mince it up fine. Maybe you could see if that is more to your liking.
Your lunch looks good, sorry it was disappointing.
