the bento packing, lunch cooking, photo taking, dog loving blog

Not Exactly Goodbye

It’s time to say, “Goodbye,” and not just because I haven’t posted for the last few months.  It’s a thought that has been on my mind for the last year.  I started Not Exactly Bento on a suggestion from a friend and as a way to teach myself to cook and to stop eating out so much.

The blog has brought many great things: a passion for photography, new friends, and support from an online bento community that has been wonderful.  Readers come and go, leaving comments that make me think and continue on the path of adventure and discovery that this blog started.  Fans stay and have supported this blog in so many ways. <3

What’s gone though is the passion to take pictures and post it all online.  My focus has shifted.  I still pack lunch.  I still cook for myself.  But the hours I once spent in front of my computer processing food photos and writing my thoughts about my cooking journey are now spent on a variety of other tasks.  I’ve learned what I wanted from Not Exactly Bento, and I hope in some small way through that journey, my readers learned something too.

I have thoughts for a new blog, one that focuses more on what catches my attention at this time: knitting, reading, photography, and the occasional food photo.  I just haven’t decided where to continue my chattiness.

At the end of May 2013, Not Exactly Bento will close its virtual doors.

Thank you for your readership and support over the last 5+ years.  It has been, and continues to be, a wonderful adventure.

And never forget to BE THE BENTO!

Bento 442: Strawberry Salad

I woke up Saturday morning at 7:15 a.m. and thought, "If I get ready really quickly, I can make it to the farmer's market just as it opens." Arriving just as it opens means I have top pick of the offerings for the week. I shook the sleep from my … [Continue reading]

Cafe Burnside at Houmas House (Restaurant Review)

houmas house lunch-6

I've talked before about Houmas House on this blog. It is one of my absolute favorite places to go. When I need to relax, I think of its gardens and immediately I smile. Regardless of the time of year, they are lush and beautiful. And when I want an … [Continue reading]

Seafood Stuffed Pork Chop Bento (441)

bento 441-1

I left work last night a bit tired, a bit harried, and quite a bit later than I had planned. Amazing how time slips away from you when you're focused and forgetting to look at the clock. As I was driving home, I was mentally convincing myself to grab … [Continue reading]

Work in Progress: Steel Cut Oats (New-to-Me)

Steel Cut oats

I woke up at the beginning of 2013 determined to find a way to like oatmeal. Honestly, I'm not a fan. But I figure that I tackled broccoli and yogurt in the course of this blog, so oats should be a snap right? I've had several people tell me to try … [Continue reading]
